General Counsel: Your caddie for business

With the PGA Tour coming to Greensboro, NC for the Wyndham Championship it makes me think of two things: 1. I am much better at watching golf than I am at playing golf and 2. Golf is a great analogy for the solo entrepreneur.

Each golfer who steps onto a course is viewed as doing it alone. Only one name is placed on the trophy. But every golfer knows they did not get there alone. There are swing coaches and caddies. Every entrepreneur needs both a coach and a caddie. A coach is a mentor and someone who can show you the ropes of your business. They know the pitfalls and can help you avoid them.

Caddies, as all golfers (and watchers and fans) know, do a lot more than carry the clubs. They are there for moral support, encouragement, and to help make the tough decisions from hole to hole. The coach helps you get on the course but the caddie walks with you every step of the way.

A General Counsel for an Entrepreneur is your caddie. Having someone walk with you every step of the way and help select the right club, read the green, and, if needed, clean the golf club after you have made a mess. GCs, like caddies, carry the tools you need to succeed in your business.

As you enjoy the great golf this week in Greensboro, remember help is here.

You shouldn’t go it alone at your business even if you are your only employee. Senges Law Firm provides General Counsel for Entrepreneurs every step of the way.
